Abstract

The main objective of this article is to examine the effects of exchange rate schemes, demand regimes and the productive structure on the cyclical volatility of employment in Argentina during the last two decades. The main contribution of the research lies in the theoretical development of a series of dynamic models that draw on different heterodox schools of thought (according to the definition of Foley and Taylor, 2004), to account for the cyclical characteristics of employment that result from the combination of an unbalanced productive structure with the investment accelerator, the Keynesian multiplier, distributive conflict, and open economy adjustment channels (trade and financial).
